I have always been fascinated by these animals. Even though they are close in size to our house dogs, they are formidable hunters and their social lifestyle is just amazing. Their physical features are so unique, especially their fur coloration. But what i love about these animals are their ears. Their size makes them so unique and i guess that was the reason why i decided to draw it.

Update 1: 7/16/2014
This drawing will be a profile of the wild dog. It will be just the head, so you can say its a study of the animal. I have added the basic foundation for the hair on most of the face and im now building depth by adding shadows and highlights. I have also covered the background with frisket film to prevent it from getting dirty. The reason is because im using quite a bit of charcoal for this drawing and it can get really messy. Im going to leave the background white as to make the wild dog the focus point.
Update 2: 7/23/2014
Layer by layer im adding depth to the hair. Using a sharp charcoal pencil, im outlining the tips of some fine hairs to indicate the layers. It’s time consuming but the effect is amazing. You can read on the technique that im using by going here
