African Wild Dog

It’s always a pleasure to draw these beautiful dogs. I have always been fascinated by their hunting skills. Their coordination and team work always amazing to see.  One thing I have noticed is that these dogs have such such a profile. They have a look of always being alert and this drawing captures that stare. I named I need Dawn because its looking into the distance at the birth of a new day. It will be full of hardships but it has made it another day.

Well I’ve finally had time to get back to this drawing after a few exhibitions that I was a part of. I will focus on a few pieces that I want to finish soon. This African wild dog will measure 16″x20″. This is the base layer and will add fine details later on. Still long ways to go but I can’t wait to bring it to life!! These animals are so beautiful. Thank you Richard @_capturing_perfect_moments_ for allowing me to use his beautiful photo.

Slowlybuilding up this ear. I’m a huge fan of texture and I’m making sure the hair in this African wild dog will have lots of it. This ear is far from complete, but I’m really happy with the way it’s evolving. I believe that hair is not only part of an animal,so I try to make sure that it also gives it life through its textures. Well, thanks for watching if you joined me on the live stream. Let me know what you think and please share, like and follow. Happy Easter everyone!!

This beauty is coming to life a layer at a time. What I’m working on at the moment is bringing out the hair. I will then begin bringing out individual hairs and begin the process of clumping. It’s amazing how much how much impact eyes have. This looks like just a shell of an animal without them, but once I add them, you will see it come alive. The eyes are definitely the windows to the soul. Let me know what you think and feel free to share, like and follow. Thanks everyone!! Reference: @_capturing_perfect_moments_

There it is… Eyes make so much of a difference,it’s now alive. I’m still not done with the fur and will further render to blend it it more. I will work on fine details on the eyes and will darken some sections. I worked on the eye during a 2 hour live stream session on my YouTube channel today. Be sure to check it out. I’m really happy with the way it’s looking. I love the textures that the hair has and the overall feel it has. Well, let me know what you think and please share, like and follow. Have a great weekend everyone!

Well I’ve gotten quite a bit more done from last update. The last major detail will be the nose. The other ear will be blurry which will add more depth to drawing. I’ve been live streaming everyday at 12pm Eastern at twitch.tv/onlypencil, so be sure to drop by. I have yet to add the loose single hairs which will be part of the final details. The snout will be slightly darker in the finished drawing. I can’t wait to add the loose single hairs along the edge, but will add those after I add the blurred background. The end is near!! Let me know what you think and don’t forget to share, like and follow. Thanks for the awesome support as always!!

This will probably be the last update before final drawing. I’m currently adding the fine hairs along the edge. That glow that you see around the dog will not be there in the final drawing. Those are hairs that I need to darken in addition to the black hairs I will add. I’ve also lightened the top section of head and darkened the snout a bit. I have added some of the blurred details to the second ear but I will most likely change it a bit. There are so many final details for me to add but I’m really excited with how it’s going to turn out. The background is pretty basic and I’m not too concerned about it right now. The background on the right side is not as dark as the lighting wasn’t the best when I took picture. The left side is not as bright either for the same reasons. Alot of the details are lost as I take pictures from further away but I will definitely post close-ups or video when it’s done. Well, let me know what you think and be sure to share, like, and follow!!
