This drawing of a persian cat was a commission for a client who wanted it as a birthday gift. I love drawing cats and this project was very interesting. For this drawing i used multiple reference photos for the detail. The original photo was lacking some detailed information and using other photos helped in adding as much detail as possible.

This pencil drawing was inspired by the new Alice in Wonderland movie by Tim Burton that will be coming out in 2010. This is the cat that will be portrayed in the movie. When i saw the movie trailer i had to add this cat to my drawing collection. This was a great project i wanted to bring realism to this iconic character from such a great story. I wanted to capture that craziness that Cheshire cat shows in the animated movie. Working on hair is always fun and this was no exception. I changed the hairs in the ears a bit to a bit more realism to it. I put quite a bit of detail into this one despite its small size. It measures 5″x7″ and is done all in pencil. Well i hope you enjoy this one and ill be adding a video of me drawing this from start to finish.

The Cheshire Cat is a fictional cat popularised by Lewis Carroll‘s depiction of it in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The term originated from an English saying coined by Peter Pindar. The Cheshire Cat has had a notable impact on popular culture. The Cheshire Cat’s grin is reminiscent of the vagaries of human character or of a trickster.

Alice first encounters it at the Duchess‘s house in her kitchen, and then later outside on the branches of a tree, where it appears and disappears at will, engaging Alice in amusing but sometimes vexing conversation. The cat sometimes raises philosophical points that annoy or baffle Alice. It does, however, appear to cheer her up when it turns up suddenly at the Queen of Hearts‘ croquet field, and when sentenced to death baffles everyone by having made its head appear without its body, sparking a massive argument between the executioner and the King and Queen of Hearts about whether something that does not have a body can indeed be beheaded.

At one point, the cat disappears gradually until nothing is left but its grin, prompting Alice to remark that she has often seen a cat without a grin but never a grin without a cat.

This one is small in size just measuring 5×7 but i was able to put in a great amount of detail. If you learn to take each area as a complete drawing you will learn that you can add so much more realism to the drawing. This way you will not rush the drawing and you will dedicate the right amount of time needed for it to look right. Your main goal should not be to complete the drawing as fast as possible but to make it look as close to the real thing. Patience is a must with pencil drawing and if you don’t dedicate time in your drawings you will always end up with sketches and not complete drawings. Take your time and you will see results.

This cat is just beautiful, i just love the look of it. What made me decide to make this drawing was the pose that it had, it gives it such a unique and intense look. It was a great project also because it was hairless. This meant working with different textures, smooth to semi-rough.

These cats are one of the most beautiful of all cats. The contrast in color and textures, makes them a great subject. I loved working on this one very much. The original drawing has much more detail then this image. Cats have all the things that i like to put into drawings, textures, reflections and lighting and those are the reasons why i draw them often. I had to use many references for this drawing and it allowed me to understand much better the basic anatomy of these animals. Well if you have any questions please contact me.

Well this one has been one of my most detailed ones. My main focus on this one was the hair. It was a great project on drawing animal hair, which is not the easiest. I love the expression and the lighting, which gives the drawing a very delicate feel. These are so elegant and capturing that elegance along with textures was a challenge but i’m really happy with the overall result.

Kittens are not only a great subject to draw, but from what i hear, they are adorable as well. This one was a great project and it goes well with my other cat drawings. The reason they are great to draw is because they are great for practicing to hair. They have very fine hair which allows you to come up and experiment with different ways to tackle that challenge. Well i hope you all enjoy this one.

This kitten has everything that makes a good drawing. Having great lighting will give any drawing so much depth and intensity. High contrast between lights and shadows gives such a dramatic look to it. This was a great experience, and with each one i improve my technique on drawing hair. Hope you enjoy it.

This cat was one of my first cat drawing that i did. Before this one i had always love to draw. This is one of the first drawings where i wanted to put in as much detail as possible. It was a great learning experience and helped me in working with animal hair. The main reason i decided to draw this cat was because of the eyes. Ever since this drawing i have enjoyed drawing cat for that reason. They have eyes that are so deep and with so much detail. Well i hope you enjoy this one and if you have any questions please comment.
